This week’s regular Sunday afternoon jazz brings together long-time contemporaries Euan Staples (piano) and Lance Philip (drums) with Chris Beernink (bass). The new trio revels in taking a groove-orientated approach to familiar-sounding tunes drawn from both the Great American Songbook era and beyond.

Inspired by the great Keith Jarrett/Brad Mehldau trios, Philip’s simmering Latin-funk grooves and Beernink’s throbbing bass vamps evolve in an earthy dialogue with Staples’ “blues-tinged” piano musings.
