The second event in our Sunday night jazz, a series of three intimate concerts with New York-based Jazz vocalist Maggie Gould.
Joining Maggie tonight, Kevin Field [piano] & Ron Samsom [drums]

Maggie is a photojournalist who sings jazz.

She grew up by the sea in New Zealand, at a young age went to London to dance and sing musical theatre. Her mother sang Opera and classical music was an early influence, then Ella, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker, Miles, Astrud Gilberto, Ivan Lins, George Duke, Stevie, Diane Reeves, Nat King Cole, Nancy Wilson and Shirley Horn.

Her music is described as soft, sultry vocals with space, and Musical Director, Nanny Assis said, ‘her voice is well suited for Bossa Nova and jazz.’ Her performances have taken her to festivals from Rome London, Venice, Barbados and New York City.
Based in New York, has enjoyed performing with John di Martino, Leo Traversa, Bruce Foreman, Nanny Assis, Miguel Fuentes, Tommy James. This recent collaboration with Nanny Assis from Bahia, Brazil resulted in Todo Amor. The project was recorded in New Zealand, mixed in New York, as Nanny put it " a surprising joyful trip of different musicians and styles”.

Kevin Field, pianist and composer has collaborated with some of the top international names in jazz including guitarist Nir Felder, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Obed Calvaire, who all feature on his New York album The A-List (Warner Music).
He has performed concerts in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand and features on over 30 albums by such artists as Nathan Haines, Whirimako Black, Caitlin Smith and The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.  In addition, Kevin has released several of his own albums including the celebrated Field of Vision, also on the Warner Music label.
Kevin is also a member of the Dr Dog jazz ensemble, winners of best jazz album at the 2015 NZ Music Awards and is a Senior Lecturer in Jazz Studies at the University of Auckland.

Ron Samsom, drummer & composer has lived in Auckland since 2003, collaborating with top international jazz artists and coordinating the Jazz Studies Programme at the University of Auckland.
The word 'diversity' best describes Samsom's approach to improvisational-based music and a keen interest in many genres has lead to an explorative musical career. An example of this is the quartet "DOG", which received the Jazz Tui award for Best Jazz album 2015 NZ Music Awards.

Ron has recently performed with visiting international artists including Marc Isaacs (AUS), Florian Ross (GER), Chris Cody (FRA), Carl Lockett (USA), Jef Nev (BE)
