Join us for two days of jewellery making and learning at Active Arts Taupo. Suitable for beginners and more advanced students, this course will focus on simple but effective techniques as described on our Weekend Workshops page. There will be two tutors for a full class, Vaune Mason - the founders of Workspace Studios, and Rani Stigsdottir - one of our regular tutors. Spaces are limited so book now to take advantage of this great opportunity!

Beginners: Total beginners to jewellery making will be shown the starting steps for simple and beautiful projects to complete over the two days. You will learn to use a jeweller's saw to cut simple shapes from the metals we use - copper, brass and silver.

You’ll learn to heat and form the metal to create different pieces, add texture, solder connections and clean up and polish your finished jewellery.

We will aim for you to have several simple pieces made over the two days such as:
A textured sterling silver ring, a pair of textured or stamped copper or brass earrings on sterling silver earring hooks or posts (for studs) or a simple pendant or key-tag in copper or brass (can be made in silver if you wish to purchase extra materials).

We’ve designed these projects to be able to be made in the time allowed, with minimal experience. We will be able to customise the projects a little for students - for example, if you don’t wish to make earrings, you could do two rings, or two pendants, or keytags. Some students may complete 2 projects, others may complete more.

We will be teaching you skills that we hope you can continue to practice at home or in a group with a basic tool set up.

More advanced students: Those students who have experience in jewellery making can be assisted to make straightforward pieces such as a bezel set stone for a ring or pendant, textured bracelets or a handmade chain charm bracelet.

If you wish to have your project completed over the two days, we will be guiding you to choose simple projects in order to achieve a good degree of finish.

For advanced students who have access to jewellery workshops at home and just want assistance with complex projects or inspiration or new techniques, we will endeavor to offer you the challenges you desire. It’s recommended that you add into your booking info if there are any specific techniques you’re interested in and we can let you know what is possible.

Basic materials for starting projects are supplied and more available to purchase if required.
We will be bringing a selection of stones, jewellery materials and stg silver chains for purchase as well. Course costs will vary slightly according to venue and travel requirements.

If you wish to book a class for your area, please contact us to discuss.
