The Big Sing (TBS) is a highly successful choral event that has been taking place for more than 25 years and is aimed at the emerging end of choral and singing talent.

TBS is New Zealand’s largest choral event, with approximately 250 secondary schools, comprising some 10,000 singers, entering regional competitions held in Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, East Coast, Taranaki, Wellington, Manawatu/Whanganui, Marlborough/Nelson, Canterbury/West Coast, Otago and Southland. Observers (choristers and directors from secondary schools) also attend each event, as well as members of the public, parents and supporters. The choral pieces are wide-ranging in style and the audiences large.

Regional festivals take place over a period of 1-4 days in 10 centres during May/June. The choirs are required to present varied 10-minute programmes, including at least one New Zealand composition, and showcase their favourite items in a gala concert on the final night.

The Finale will be held in the Dunedin Town Hall from 29-31 August 2019 and involves a total of 24 choirs selected from the regions – approximately 800 students with their directors and supporters. Each day there are expected to be around 1000 in the audience, with a capacity Gala concert of up to 2000.

A merchant fee may be charged on credit and debit card transactions.

Cash and eftpos available for door sales at Nelson Centre of Musical Arts from 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday and one hour prior to the scheduled performance time.
