For the first time ever, The Explorers Club Polar Film Festival will make it's way to the sunny shores of Christchurch, New Zealand!

From September 8th, a perfectly curated collection of inspiring polar themed films will be screened in the newly built Lumiere Cinemas at the Arts Centre.

On Sunday, September 8th and Sunday, September 15th the films will be screened in the stunning Lumière Cinemas at the Arts Centre. Tickets for this session are available here.

On Saturday, September 14th the beautiful Hollywood Theatre in Sumner will host a special screening at 6 pm. Tickets for this session are available at polar-film-festival-sumner.eventbrite.co.nz

Here's a short taster of some of the film's screening:
Rise: From One Island to Another
A beautiful spoken word poem connecting women from the Marshall Islands and one from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland). The science behind climate change and its causes have been clear for decades. And yet, it has not been enough to drive the change we need to see in order to salvage our planet. We hope this poem can spark the emotion and drive needed for more people to rise and take action.

The Traverse
This film showcases the logistics that go on behind the scenes for all the science to happen in Antarctica. Follow along as Subglacial Antarctic Lakes Scientific Access (SALSA) Traverse on their first trip to Mercer Subglacial Lake. This film really shows you how big, flat and white Antarctica is while giving you a window into the human element of working in such an extreme place.

Three Thousand
Brought to our screens with help from the Canadian High Commision, Three Thousand shows Inuk artist Asinnajaq plunge us into a sublime imaginary universe — luminescent, archive-inspired cinema that recasts the past, present and future of Inuit in a radiant new light.

With limited screenings on Sunday 8th September, Saturday 14th September and Sunday 15th September, tickets are sure to sell out fast so be in quick. Tickets available for purchase only on Eventbrite.

We'll see you there!
