7.30pm - "The Flight of Te Hookai", a 2009 NZ production, 57 minutes.

50 years ago, two men from Tainui – Wiremu Toetoe and Hemara Te Rerehau – took the trip of a lifetime on board the ‘Novara’ a Viennese scientific frigate and returned to New Zealand with... a printing press, a gift from the Emperor of Austria.

Local film maker Tearepa Kiha, also from Tainui, now retraces their footsteps via the journal of Hemara Te Rerehau, the younger of the two men, in a bid to learn more about their historic voyage and its impact on New Zealand, while trying to separate the myth from the story.

8.45pm - "Allan Baldwin: In Frame", a 2011 NZ production, 52 minutes.

In the 1960s Allan Baldwin, a young photographer, travelled through Aotearoa, obsessed with preserving the image of the moko, a Maori tattoo put on the chins of the Kuia women. Uncovering this breathtaking collections of photographs and his memories, the wisdom and beauty of an ancient culture is uniquely captured.
