Did you know that in 2009 Wellington became the First Fair Trade Capital City in the Southern Hemisphere? 2019 marks 10 years of Wellington as a Fair Trade City! We’re celebrating this milestone by offering a range of free public events over the two-week period: 2–15 August 2019.

Join us at Parliament on Tuesday 13 August from 5:30pm as Hon James Shaw (Green Party Co-leader, Minister for Climate Change, Minister of Statistics, and Assoc Minister of Finance) introduces a representative from Fairtrade and their special international guest: Mitchell Ricky, a Fairtrade coffee farmer from Papua New Guinea. Mitchell will be talking about himself and how buying Fairtrade coffee impacts him.

After Mitchell departs, we’ll be screening the 70-minute documentary, Connected By Coffee (2014), which delves into the lives and history of the people who grow the coffee that we drink, and shows how equitable trading relationships are empowering communities in Latin America and bringing social justice. Many thanks to Stone Hut Studios (USA) for allowing us to publicly screen this film. Read more about the film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3675066/

Please arrive at Parliament early, by 5.15pm, to allow time to pass through security. Please note that no food or drink can be consumed in the Beehive Theatrette.

Don’t delay – secure your free tickets now! Limited tickets available.
