Sharon Wrigley unintentionally created pathways in her recent fluid acrylics. They just appeared, but it was her intention to include them in the framed works on display as part of her exhibition – roads, pathways, trails, openings, gateways, treks uphill, light and views beyond and the journey towards the light and freedom.

Oprah has just released a book called ‘The Path Made Clear’ and in it she says ‘I don’t believe in coincidence. I know there is a divine order to the magnificent mystery of our lives’. Thus Sharon’s title was given to her!

‘The ‘pathways’ of our lives are forever changing. We stay on the path with the scenery constantly an evolution of change but there are always detours! The core of ourselves is to find freedom and the pathways are a metaphor. Everything we do ‘to escape’ or ‘to feel free’ is to peel back the multitude of layers and to unravel ourselves. To let go of our bindings, our boundaries, our ties and our limitations.’

Both aesthetics are fluid, colourful, imperfect and unpredictable. Sharon would like the viewers’ mind to fill in the blanks. To create a story of what’s to come, the unknown, future mystery, infinite possibilities, the mind expanded, beyond the visual, the imagination uplifted and fantasies freed.

Sharon’s love of art grew out of her love for plants, trees, flowers and gardening. Plants are the soul of the planet.

"It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living." - David Attenborough

Sharon completed her BVAD in 2011 and had her first solo exhibition during that year. She has exhibited at the NZ Art Show, Taranaki Art Awards, Molly Morpeth Finalist, Hastings Community Art Centre, Art-X, Electra Gallery, Pukeora, Red Peach Gallery, Tremains Affordable Art Show at NGHS and she is looking forward to expanding her viewing audience. Sharon works part time at Humanity Books and Fine Art.

Join Sharon to celebrate the opening of her exhibition on Friday 28 June, 5-7pm. All welcome!
