Consider this your invitation and leave your pre-conceived ideas of a fringe festival at the gates! The Incubator Creative Hub is working alongside their “BFFs” Tauranga Arts Festival, Baycourt and the Historic Village to bring the Tauranga the very first Fringe Village.

The folks at The Incubator have been working hard to bring together a programme the most interesting and unusual “out of the box” artists and performers.

“It’s going to be a right mash up of theatre, performance art, installation, visual art, music, markets stalls, busking, fashion, comedy and everything in between.” says Incubator director Simone Anderson – “expect to be challenged and stimulated with loads of artists and performers having the freedom to experiment to a receptive audience.”

The whole Village on 17th Avenue will be activated – The chapel features the Fringe of the Fringe – an array of 10 underground alternative bands from NZ.

Street buskers and entertainers including the Nukes who will activate kids and ‘pied piper’ them to a special performance on the youth stage also featured the Bay music school, Kapahaka, and college bands. Hamilton’s famous Free lunch Theatre will surprise visitors with their iconic street performance along with captivating spontaneous secret acts springing up through the Village cobbled streets.

Weird and wonderful market stalls and installations and exhibitions of everything imaginable will sit alongside indie films hosted by Cult Cinema and Bay of Plenty Film. There will a zine library and workshops an opportunities to interact with the art.

The Jam Factory will feature some of the Bay of Plenty’s most promising fashion designers curating a series of spectacular pop up fashion events.

The Village hall will be transformed into pop up theatre for the day by Baycourt Community & Arts Centre with back to back theatre and stage performance from comedy to political commentary performance. The Gourmet Night markets will add a sumptuous flavour to the event with many ‘new to the Bay’ food trucks, Mount Brewery Co Brewery whetting the thirst and the salt & pepper will be street poets, flash mobs and buskers sprinkled over the whole event.

Nearly all of the attractions at Fringe Village are being presented without renumeration – so bring along a fistful of dollars to support the many artists and performers that have chosen to support the inaugural event purely to make it cool.

The event is family friendly - but be aware there could be some risqué and unusual acts, so that will be up to the discretion of the caregiver on the day.

So keep Saturday 26th October free – from 10am -7pm for a small koha you will be entertained, inspired and stimulated by what The Tauranga Fringe Village 2019 has in store for you!

Get your weird and obscure kit on and come and join the shenanigans at the Historic Village on the Saturday of Labour weekend.
