Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

For several decades Debra listened to multiple voices all declaring themselves experts. They spoke to her of how she should live her life, what she should do, and how she should do it and what was wrong with her. They passed judgments on her appearance, her activities, her relationships. They degraded her successes and emphasised her failures.

They ridiculed and patronised her, loved and hated her. No area of her life was immune from their commentary and criticism. Finally Debra asserted herself and began to reclaim her authentic self. Today she speaks of the accumulated wisdom she extracted from dialogues held with those who insisted they knew best.
