An information heavy weekend. Guest speakers, tiny house owners and builders, bi-law experts and fun. Providing you with the design inspiration and information you need to start designing and building your own tiny home. Recommend for anyone thinking about tiny homes in NZ that can't commit to the full design and build workshop.
This introductory workshop is a survey of all the main basics, including:
- Pros and cons of tiny living
- The types of tiny homes and how to choose the right one for you
- The basic “rules” of tiny houses, including sizes, lengths, and other limitations
- Your dream floor plan and how to lay it out in scale
- Technical topics like, orientation, structure, insulation, vapour barriers and house wraps, ventilation, and non-toxic finishes
- How to plan your project like a master, and know what to do first, second, third…
- Mechanical topics like heat, water, waste, and electricity
- Construction basics, structural, framing, flooring, windows and doors, roofing, and so on!
Your main instructor Ben Garratt, who has been building tiny houses and running workshops for many years. He incorporates engaging visual presentations, supplementary videos, and hands-on activities.
With guest speakers from around New Zealand.
Food is being provided by Manning Community and their permaculture garden kitchen.
