Titirangi Potters Presents 'The Leach Effect-St Ives'' presented by film-maker Robin Kewell. Robin grew up near St Ives and spent most of his life there, he took it for granted that all of his parent's friends were either potters, artists or sculptors. This special evening of film and story telling will delve into the amazing history of St Ives and shed some light on why St Ives attracted world renowned artists and potters. The Tate Gallery was built there in the late 1980's to commemorate the rich history of this artist's colony surrounded by the sea. Robin worked school holidays at the Leach Pottery and later for Barbara Hepworth and Denis Mitchell. After studying silversmithing and jewellery at Birmingham Art College he returned to St Ives to carry out his craft at the Sloop Craft Market.
Just about every potter in the West Country spent some time at the Leach Pottery, Titirangi's Len Castle was there in the early 1950's.
This special evening on Friday 11th will tell the story of St Ives through archive film and photographs, with a short film on the artists studios and a documentary featuring Bernard Leach and his pottery. There will be time for a Q & A after the presentation.

Tickets are just $12 from eventfinda.co.nz and on door if not sold out.
