You will:
- Hear what life was like for women in Kate Sheppard's day,
- Listen to Katherine Jones perform Christchurch composer Rosemary Stott’s Suffrage Day piano suite,
- Hear young feminist poet Jess Tater recite some challenging poems,
- Experience an 1893 meeting about votes for women,
- Enjoy your picnic lunch in the grounds of Kate Sheppard's house in Ilam, and
- View a display of Kate Sheppard pictures and information, and
- Tour the city by bus to hear about sites associated with Kate Sheppard, with stops at some of them.
Please bring your lunch. Tea and coffee available.
Committee members will dress in Victorian costume, and participants are warmly invited to do the same. A basic outfit would be a dark-coloured ankle-length skirt, a jacket, and a long-sleeved white blouse.
Any profit from this tour will result in a donation to the YWCA which runs transitional and emergency housing for women, and women with children. Kate Sheppard was on the board of the YWCA, so it is one way of continuing her work.
