Here is some important information about Saturday's Matariki planting event:

Location: Metro Park East, 228 Millwater Parkway, Silverdale, Auckland 0992
Time: 9am-12pm & 12.30pm-4pm. We are running two planting sessions, please feel free to stay for one or both sessions.

Parking - There is plenty of parking at Metro Park car park on 228 Millwater Parkway and on the surrounding streets. The planting area/meeting point is close to the car park and will be sign posted.

What to bring with you
- Gumboots or similar
- Spade – some will be provided but numbers are limited. Please name your spade if you are bringing one.
- Gloves – we will have a limited number of spare ones
- Raincoat – the event will take place, rain or shine
- Water bottle – no single ones use please. We will provide water to refill your reusable bottle
- Snacks – please remember take your rubbish home with you.

Please do not bring your own flags, banners or music (unless you have headphones).

Health and Safety - Auckland City will do a Health and Safety briefing on site before the planting starts and have a hazard board displayed by the planting area. The main points to remember are that the planting area might be slippery, so please be careful on the ground and stabilise yourself when you are digging. Please take breaks often and don’t overdo it!

How to plant - Auckland City will do a planting demonstration before the planting starts but if you’d like some pre-information then check out the Trees That Count video on how to Plant Like a Ninja - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYSA4EFSoXg

Site hazards
There will be a first aid station at the planting site but site hazards may include:
- Mud
-Uneven ground – slips and trips
- Spades
- Walkers and bikers sharing the tracks

Children - Please make sure that children are supervised by adults at all times.

Supervisors - There will be supervisors, wearing Hi-Viz vests, to help you with planting and with health and safety. Feel free to go and find one on site if you need assistance.

Toilets - Metro Park East toilets are in walking distance, alternatively Robert’s Coffee café is close by where you could grab a coffee.

Food and drinks - There will be a free sausage sizzle after the planting. We also have some vegetarian sausages available.

Keep your fingers crossed for sun, the planting will go ahead whatever the weather!

Finally, have a great day out and enjoy the day, we look forward to seeing you there!
