Trinity Methodist Church’s summer season of Music Vespers continues.
Each month the hour-long Vespers uses a variety of Music genre to explore spirituality alongside short reflections and prayer. Music is not only as played at Vespers as performance art, but as spiritual music.
This month's musicians are: Elaine von Dadelszen sings George Gershwin (Linda Gilchrist – pianist); guest singer Margaret Kitt (with David Kitt and David Day)
Music Vespers contains elements of a concert and a worship service; offering an opportunity for reflection through the notes of music and verse. It is a new take on an old service: Vespers was traditionally an evening service (at sunset) that reflected on the ancient songs of the Psalms.
Trinity's Music Vespers combines these to be both concert and contemporary worship; offering a space for reflection through the notes of music and verse.
(This was previously known as "Jazz Vespers", but for this season we are opening up the range of genre).
The current Summer Season runs each 3rd Sunday of each month through to April 2018.
Future dates are: 17th February (Art Deco Weekend) with Georgia Duder-Wood, 17th March (St Patrick’s Day!), 21st April (Easter Sunday).
There are no ticket costs, but Donations/Koha (suggestion $5 or more) are invited at the Vespers to support the Methodist Church’s objective of “Let the children live”.
The charities for this year being supported by Vespers are: childcare services at Napier Family Centre and William Colenso School for Teenage Parents. Last year just over $2,000 was raised.
