The Turner Centre Jazz Club is proud and excited to welcome an outstanding line-up of jazz musicians for Friday the 30th of August.

Trudy Lile and Mojave
Trudy Lile – vocals and flute. Notorious for her energetic flair, Trudy is a jazz flutist and vocalist, who performs regularly in Auckland, and has performed throughout New Zealand at Jazz and Arts Festivals for the last fifteen years. She has also recorded, performed and toured as featured soloist with The Jazz Divas, Sisters Of Swing, Auckland Jazz Orchestra, The Rodger Fox Big Band, Black Sand Diva, Rodger Fox’s Funk-bone Experience, Andy Atwill, Jon Sanders, Whirimako Black (2009 Jazz album of the Year), Ishtar, King Kapisi, Many Hands (tour of Korea 2000), and most recently appeared on the soundtrack of New Zealand film, ‘Mt Zion’ 2013.

In 2012 Trudy appeared in concert at the invitation of renowned saxophonists Bennie Maupin (USA) (Herbie Hancock – Headhunters) and Dick Oatts (USA) (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra). She has also toured internationally to Australia, Singapore, The Caribbean, Indonesia, Korea, and China.
Trudy graduated from Massy University with MMus in 1999, and was vocal and flute tutor at New Zealand School of Music, Massey University. She has also been teaching vocalists, flutists, pianists, jazz ensembles, chamber groups and concert bands in schools for the past 30 years.

Alex Ward – piano. Currently residing as a Kerikeri local and school teacher, Alex has been performing for the past 10 years with his own trio and quintet, and most recently with the sophisticated and highly popular ‘Big Ticket’ band, which he formed two years ago. He’s a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music, and has toured with Trudy Lile on the highly exclusive cruise ship ‘The World’, where they played in Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, and the Antarctica. We have come to love the wonderful musicianship and flair Alex brings to our Jazz Club.

Alex Griffith – bass. Alex has three decades of performance experience with National and international touring artist including Randy Crawford (USA), Miguel Fuentes (Puerto Rico), and the Rodger Fox Big Band. We have seen Alex in three other line-ups at our Turner Centre Jazz Club. Afro Tropical, The Allana Goldsmith Quartet, and Evan Silva with Silva Service. Alex would have to be one of the most exciting, innovative, world class bass players New Zealand has produced.

Cameron Sangster – drums. Cameron, a multifaceted drummer, moves between small ensemble line-ups to big band performances with the ease of a truly gifted musician. He is the regular drummer with the Phil Broadhurst Quintet and has played for the Auckland Jazz Orchestra along with many other line-ups. Cam, as he is known, is a drummer who is heavily in demand and a pleasure to hear perform.

We welcome these dedicated, gifted musicians to our ‘New World Theatre Bar’, for a night’s journey through the beautiful and exciting arrangements and flare of Jazz at its very best!
