June Hayes
June Hayes, a well-known jazz singer/songwriter has returned to Northland after living for 30 years in Auckland. Over those years, and in support of her home town, June has featured regularly at the Whangarei Jazz Festival, and Bay of Islands Jazz Festival. Her debut album ‘To Whom It May Concern’ featured her first original jazz composition ‘Take Hold of My Soul’.

The album’s release led to an invitation to perform at the 2002 Brecon International Jazz Festival in Wales, performing alongside Martin Drew – drummer for legendary pianist Oscar Peterson, and bassist Andy Kleindert of Ronnie Scott’s in London. In 2012, June composed and recorded her first all-original album ‘Journey for the Return Home’, released at Kororareka (Russell) in 2013, earning June recognition as a ‘powerfully penned lyricist’ (NZ Musician magazine). In 2018 she produced the very successful Matariki Starlight Jazz Concert, held in Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Alex Ward
Alex Ward, pianist/jazz singer has many gigs under his belt both locally and overseas. He graduated with honors from the New Zealand School of Music in 2012, and has been performing and teaching around New Zealand ever since. He was formerly Jazz Program Administrator at the New Zealand School of Music in Albany. Alex moved to Kerikeri with his wife Nicole where he continues to enjoy teaching, and performing music.

Cameron McArthur
Cameron McArthur, double Bass player, graduated from the University of Auckland with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance in 2012. Contributing to the Auckland music scene he has performed with artists such as Nathan Haines, Roger Manins, Ron Samsom, and Kevin Field, along with many more top world class musicians. As well as live performance, Cameron has recorded with the Auckland Jazz Orchestra, Anita Schwabe, Mark Donlon, Michael Martynuik, Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes, also the Neutrino Funk Experience. Cameron joined the pit orchestra for Michaels Hurst’s rendition of Chicago in 2013.

Ron Samsom
Ron Samsom, drummer and composer has lived in Auckland, New Zealand since 2003, collaborating with top local and international jazz artists also coordinating the Jazz Studies Programme at the University of Auckland. The word diversity best describes Samsom’s approach to improvisational-based music and a keen interest in many genres has lead to an explorative musical career.

An example of this approach is the jazz quartet ‘DOG’, which received the award for Best Jazz album in the 2015 NZ music awards. Other recent performances with visiting international artists include Marc Isaacs (AUS), Florian Ross (GER), Chris Cody (FRA), Carl Lockett (USA), and Jef Nev (BE).

This will be a jazz experience you won’t forget.
June will present many of your favourite Jazz standards with some of her own compositions mixed in. She brings with her a set of fine musicians seriously dedicated to their craft.

5pm doors open, 6pm live music.
Proudly sponsored by STAY Kerikeri.
