Ukulollo - The headline act at this year’s Geraldine UkeFest is in Taupo on Saturday, July 6th to run a workshop (4 pm) and present His "Cinemagic" concert later in the evening.

The international artist based in Lucca, Italy - Lorenzo Vignando - has starred at ukulele festivals all over the globe and brings a unique show that features the clever use of multimedia.

Lorenzo has this to say about his approach to his workshops:

"Tricks, Licks & Beats… all my secrets revealed!
I will confess everything I use in my technique, including how to arrange a song with ukes and some fancy rhythmic patterns."

We will start learning surprising versions of "Imagine" by John Lennon and other songs to understand every aspect of the process.

"When I was young we didn't have any internet, so, if you wanted to cover a song, you had to put all of your attention when the song was played on the radio or on TV, and try to find a way to impress it in your memory everything you could from just one single listening. Then you had to work on your instrument trying to reproduce the song according to the feelings you had impressed. After years of this struggling technique, I'm now able to cover almost any song right after listening to it for the first time.

The key to understanding music is to get rid of the answers we can easily find on the internet (chords and paperwork) and train our ears and our brain in order to work everything out by ourselves. This is going to be the ultimate goal of the workshop.

That is the way I rearranged Ravel's Bolero for many ukes here:
