Poetry Showcase (28th May) and Poetry Workshop (4th June)

Motif Poetry and Verb Wellington present a special evening of spoken word at the wonderful Heaven Woodfire Pizza on Cuba St (best place to be on a cold night).

Join your host, UK Slam Champion Sara Hirsch, two fantastic local poets (Lizzie Murray and Dani Yourukova) followed by the fantastic British poet/musician Caroline Teague!

This is Caroline's only Wellington gig during their month-long visit to New Zealand and they are not one to miss.

The venue is fully accessible and the event is family friendly but perfect for anyone 14 and over.

Doors 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

They will also be co-facilitating a one-off creative writing workshop on the following Tuesday (4th June) with spoken word educator Sara Hirsch at Te Auaha (Dixon St) from 6-8pm. A limited amount of combined tickets are available for both the show and the workshop.

Poetry Workshop: 'Spoken word, written down.'

A practical workshop for anyone looking to take their work to the next level. In this collaborative and friendly session we will look at tools for editing your work, tips for creating pamphlets, collections and submittable poetry and ways to make your writing feel as comfortable on the page as it does on the stage. This workshop, led by UK slam Champion Sara Hirsch (two published collections) and Genesis Slam coordinator Caroline Teague (recently won Burning Eye Books pamphlet competition) is open to poets at all stages and is not limited to spoken word artists. As long as you have a desire to see your work in print, this space is for you.

Caroline Teague is a London born and bred poet writing pieces on grief, identity and how they come to terms with some harrowing realities of being human and being alive, in a style they call ‘tragic optimism’ hoping that the honesty through their writing can translate into something positive and comforting for someone else.

Creator of the musical project “Caroline Smiling” which blends music, spoken word and illustration to creatively communicate ideas around mental health and queer identity. Caroline was the international guest at the 2018 Portugal Slam in Lisbon in October 2018 and the poet in residence at the Stanza poetry festival in St. Andrews, Scotland in March 2019, continuing to perform their work regularly at poetry and literary events across the UK.

They also curate London’s only regular 3-round Slam, Genesis Poetry Slam, and is an artist-in-residence at the Vauxhall-based queer cabaret night Bar Wotever, with their first poetry collection coming out with Burning Eye Books in Autumn 2019.
