Have fun at the Museum these school holidays. Leave the children with us to enjoy supervised, tutored programmes.

Squishy Critters
Monday 15 April 2019
Create your own squishy pet to take home, and other furry friends to keep or give away as gifts. Get inspired by a tour of the Scarface Claw exhibition and a behind-the-scenes visit to the Museum’s vault to see our collection of stuffed toys.

Costumed Characters
Tuesday 16 April
Explore the CUT! Costume and the Cinema exhibition and see how accessories and props are used to make the costumes even more authentic. Create a costume accessory based on your favourite movie.

Mysterious Microscopic World
Wednesday 17 April
Travel to the microscopic world – a world so small you can't see it with the naked eye! Learn to use a microscope to appreciate the diversity and beauty of life under the lens.

Incredible Crawlers
Thursday 18 April
Help produce our pop-up nature magazine. Inspired by New Zealand insects and minibeasts, we’ll be making headpieces and antennas, before dressing up and posing for magazine photographs in the creatures’ natural environment. Find out why insects are good for the eco-system of our gardens and planet Earth in general and build and decorate an insect palace for your garden.

Between the Pages
Tuesday 23 April
Become an author and “publish” your very own children’s book, from front cover to end pages. Learn about the story development process, and see original illustrations and cover designs by much-loved author Dame Lynley Dodd to help you draft and create.

Welcome to the Vortex
Wednesday 24 April
If you’ve ever watched the water drain from the bathtub, you’ve seen a vortex. But how is the vortex created and what forces are involved? Build your own model to take home and learn about how these phenomena form.

Pop Arting the Family Groceries
Friday 26 April
Create a Waikato Warhol that will make your room ‘POP’. Inspired by the Waikato Bungalow exhibition and Andy Warhol, we’ll be looking at the role of the Pop Art scene in 1950’s advertising and branding. Build and sculpture an oversized grocery item, and learn how to play tricks with colours, dots, and lines.
