Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

Tutor: Nicola Basham. This course will run over the weekend 21 - 22 September 2019 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM both days.

Places are limited.

Have fun making natural baskets using cane, bark, driftwood and seagrass. You'll learn to work with a variety of materials and weave them into practical containers. You will need to bring some tools and oddments for this course.

As well as learning to work with seagrass and cane, you'll learn how to gather natural materials, select specific materials for particular projects, use driftwood to create a rim and dye different materials.

Nicola will show you how to create a cane structure and use random weave techniques with varied materials. Each student will work to complete their own unique piece by the end of the workshop. The main image provided shows actual baskets made by students in our 2017 course.

Most materials are provided - students will need to bring some simple tools and scavenged materials to add to their basket.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
