Join this Discovery Day Trip from Kāpiti to Wellington. Soak up the picturesque South Coast and venture to places you never knew existed.
We begin the tour with panoramic views of the rugged coastline at Owhiro Bay, and (fingers crossed) a view of the South Island. Morning tea at the Te Kopahou Visitor Centre provides an opportunity to learn the tales of this intriguing part of the coast.
Next we make our way to Island Bay, discussing points of historic interest along the coast before paying a short visit to the shopping village. We'll enjoy lunch on the coast at Beach House and Kiosk.
In the afternoon we have a special opportunity to visit the Cambodian Buddhist Temple on the hills above Island Bay. Our host will show us the elaborate shrines and explain the role of the temple and the monks who live there.
Lastly, we'll take a scenic drive around the bays and finish with a visit to accomplished artist Sue Dasler's pottery gallery in Lyall Bay.
Pick up points: From 9.00 a.m. with return at approximately 4.30 p.m. There are pick up points in Waikanae, Paraparaumu and Paekakariki.
Accessibility: The trip is taken in a comfortable 12-seater mini-bus which is not wheel-chair accessible. Walking frames can be carried on this tour and assistance is offered for mounting and dismounting the minibus. Access to the lower temple involves steps or a cable car ride.
