This hands-on class teaches you how to safely operate the essential machinery in a wood workshop.
Over four weeks, you'll learn how to select wood, mill wood to square, and gain confidence on major woodworking machines, including the mitre saw, jointer, thickness planer, table saw, disc sander, and drill press. Additionally, you will learn how to glue up and finish a laminated cutting board.
Woodworking - Machines (Beginners) includes a full health and safety induction for machinery, therefore attendees of this class are able to later use the workshop machines without enrolling in a separate induction class.
What you will learn:
- General health and safety in the workshop
- Measuring and marking out your project
- Safe use of power tools including; table saw, thicknesser, planer/jointer, disc sanders
- Gluing and finishing techniques
The Warren is a community workshop in Auckland. We offer classes enabling people to learn how to build useful, beautiful objects themselves: carving a wooden spoon, or constructing a shelf. We also offer drop-in sessions where people can use the workshop independently, and ongoing memberships.
