This exhibition showcases the recent work of printmaker Angela Lalonde.
Angela is best known for her technical printmaking skills and wide ranging use of media. Angela graduated from Alberta University of Art and Design (formerly Alberta College of Art & Design) in Canada in 2005 with a degree in Print Media specialising in Lithography and Intaglio.
Angela was reluctant to practice her art professionally after finishing her degree, deciding instead to teach. Eventually she switched gears completely and moved into Social Work. The transition to Social Work was catastrophic and the impetus that sent her spiraling into a mental health crisis. It is only recently with the aid of an art therapist that she has begun to explore her creativity once again.
This body of work explores the mental health journey Ms. Lalonde is experiencing and invites the viewer to participate in the pandemonium that chronicles her ruin and liberation.
Angela hopes to engage the viewers in a visual conversation about “Mental Health” and the stigma that surrounds it, whilst also attempting to normalise the exposure to Mental Health issues that she believes many of us encounter in our daily lives.
Angela uses printmaking techniques as the groundwork for her imagery and then builds layer upon layer with stencils, paint, metal leaf and ink to fully channel the creative process and produce an image that is truly intuitive.
