This course is part of our programme a Writer's Weekend 17 - 18 August 2019.
Discover what makes a great picture book and learn techniques and tips to help you develop and write your own.
The course begins with a brief introduction to the picture book genre and then using a mixture of discussion, teaching, Q & A, exercises and feedback, we will cover the main aspects of the writing craft required to write your own, including:
- Story development
- The Do's and Don'ts of writing for the very young
- Developing your own style and voice
- What to do when you don't draw
We will also cover techniques and advice for editing and rewriting your own work, information on submitting your work, getting published, competitions and writer resources.
Who should attend? Anyone keen to write a picture book, anyone who has an unfinished or rejected manuscript sitting in a bottom drawer, those who may be looking to use their own illustrations.
Please note this course is intended for adult learners writing FOR children.
