Our Maiden Voyage will do our country proud.

(Sing that to the tune of the New Zealand National Anthem. No, really.)

The misguided crew of the Yesterday, one of Aotearoa’s first space-cruise ships, is about to take off on their maiden voyage, and they want you to join them.

Part sci-fi, part soap-opera, part musical, Yesterday in Space brings a group of all-singing, all-dancing creators to the stage as part of SPLITelevision and Tempest Theatre Co’s first joint production. This new production has been devised from scratch over the last few months and features the work of some of Wellington’s most unique actors, videomakers, drag artists and designers.

In the not so far future, Aotearoa’s joined the space race, and they want you to know it. The wild and wacky crew of the Yesterday takes off to explore the vastness of the universe, flirt excessively, and hopefully not cause too much trouble. However, when the ship is hit by an asteroid, they must use all their skills and musical knowledge to find their Captain, fix the ship and save the day.

Brodie Taurima, Captain of the Yesterday, says of the piece, “It’s incredible that a ship can somehow stay together despite being made primarily out of cheese and innuendo,” and we agree. With several original songs, a show packed full of queer characters who don’t die in the end, and all the PG-13 rated sexiness one could ever want, join us on our maiden voyage into space.

There might even be some aliens! You’ll just have to come along and see.

Show contains flashing lights and some innuendo.
