Japan Day is the largest Japanese cultural festival in New Zealand, which aims to further friendship and mutual understanding between New Zealand and Japan by sharing traditional and contemporary Japanese culture with local New Zealanders as well as Japanese people living in New Zealand.

At 19 th Japan Day, there will be Cultural exhibits such as Ikebana flower arrangement, Tea Ceremonies, Kimono trials, Calligraphy, Origami and Bonsai. There will also be a variety of food stalls of Sushi, Yakisoba, Takoyaki, Ramen, Yakitori and many more! Also we have Mochi pounding on the spot, fresh “Mochi” steamed rice cake is served straight out of the mortar, and everyone is welcome to participate in “Mochi-tsuki” the pounding.

On the stage we have Taiko drums, Yosakoi Dancers, Martial Arts performances, and this year we have specially invited an awesome duo from Japan, Kenji x Keisho, the Taiko drum and Shamisen performers in addition to our regular performers, the traditional Japanese dancer Rumi Sasaki.

There is no other event that you can experience and explore the Japanese culture in one day. Save the date, come along with your friends and family.
