We Stand With You – Protect Mangapēpeke Valley
We’re excited to reinstate our art space – a place for local or emerging artists to gain exposure and a point of interest for our clients as each season brings a new display.
This Spring we’re bringing local artists and retailers together to offer you an exciting auction of all this art and more, to support Tony & Debbie Pascoe who are standing up to protect the precious, ancient ecosystems on their land at Mt Messenger, Taranaki.
We will also be running a silent auction for those who can’t attend on the day. The silent auction is a select group of auction items open from now until the live auction begins, for you to place your bid on either in person at Absolute Therapy or by emailing info@absolutetherapy.co.nz
Numerous articles have been published on Stuff, RNZ and in local papers in Taranaki. You can also find a Facebook group called “We Stand With You” but for many, it is the video pinned to the top of that group page which has introduced us to the cause and compelled us into action.
Tony & Debbie Pascoe have been working to protect their valley for almost 4 years now and have been treated unfairly and disrespectfully along the way.
The current full time staff from Absolute Therapy have hiked into the Mangapēpeke valley with the Pascoes and have seen first hand the natural state of it; the precious bio-diversity within the valley, the abundant fresh springs, ancient wetlands and trees hundreds of years old all providing ecosystems we simply can’t replace or mimic, for numerous endangered species. We drank plentifully from the waterfall at the end of the valley and no one became unwell – something most kiwis haven’t done with confidence in decades.
This entire valley site would all be destroyed if NZTA have their way which is to put a bypass road through this valley. The logical alternative is to make safety improvements to the existing road, using the existing road corridor.
For now, this auction is the most practical way that we can come together to show Tony & Debbie that they have a community around Aotearoa New Zealand of people who care deeply for the precious land they look after and their sacrifices in doing so.
We will be donating 50% (and some auction lots will contribute 100%) of sales to the Pascoe’s to help them in their ongoing efforts to protect their land.
