"A deft combination of Western art and traditional Maori music performed with great sensitivity and authority." - Manawatu Standard

Toi Warbrick has dug a hole through the earth and discovered 16th century Spain. Be spellbound by their story in song, nga taonga puoro and evocative imagery, which makes sense of time and place. At the heart of Antipodeans is the commissioned work ‘Ciento Ochenta’ by NZ composer Pepe Becker.
This work combines early music with NZ poetry by Apirana Taylor and Leonel Alvarado, new art music and traditional Maori instrumentation. Initially named TAHI80, ANTIPODEANS toured to town halls in the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts in 2016, and the following year, performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and in San Martin de Valdeiglesias, Spain – the town exactly opposite Palmerston North – ‘through the hole’.

“When mythology comes alive – mesmerising, visceral, haunting, moving, a depth and power I just wasn’t expecting ... ’. - Audience member
