History and Representation at the World's Art Olympics
Join us on the last of our 'Art to Heart' talk series as Claire Chamberlain introduces the history of La Biennale di Venezia which is sometimes described as the “Olympics” of the art world. It began in 1895 and is widely regarded as the world’s pre-eminent contemporary art exhibition. Claire will also explore the history and significance of New Zealand representation since it began in 2001 and look to the future of the next La Biennale in 2022.
Claire Chamberlain teaches as part of the Art Today programme at Te Tuhi art space in Pakuranga. Prior to this role, she was a secondary teacher of art history from the historical to the contemporary for over 20 years.
Claire is a keen supporter of New Zealand representation at the La Biennale di Venezia. She is the Co-Director of New Zealand at Venice Patrons for 2022 and has been a patron of NZ at Venice herself since 2017. Claire was an exhibition attendant for Lisa Reihana’s ‘Emissaries’; Aotearoa New Zealand’s Venice Biennale exhibit in 2017.
