By popular demand, exhibiting artist Alan Squires will be in the gallery once again next Tuesday evening at 5.30pm to talk us through the works in his current exhibition Whangarei and discuss what it took to launch his first book Whangarei - one hundred pages celebrating our glorious region.

Q&A will follow the talk and there's the opportunity to have your copy of Whangarei signed by the author. The exhibition runs through until 29th February. We certainly hope you can make it.

With an exceptional eye for capturing the dramatic, self taught photographer Squires has spent the last eight years creating an extensive visual document of the region and establishing his photography business in central Whangarei. His personal connection to Whangarei is evident in his work and he is a proud supporter of local business "Both the book and limited edition archival prints featured in the exhibition are printed right here in Whangarei - How great is that!!"

Whangarei, Squires first substantial publication, is a celebration of the region through his eyes from Langs to Whangaruru. With a combination of both colour and black & white images of rural and coastal scenes, Whangarei is a unique photographic journey of some of his most favourite views.

"The maritime setting of Whangarei beguiles with an ever changing bustling harbour and a varied-dramatic coastline with glorious beaches. I’ve spent many a day on the sand at the height of summer and not seen a soul, and I like that." says Squires.
