Tammy Bottner: Among the Reeds - The true story of how a family survived the Holocaust.
Dr. Tammy Bottner is a physician, writer, and mother based in Newburyport, Massachusetts. She is also the child and grandchild of Holocaust survivors.
In her award-winning debut book, Among the Reeds: The True Story of How a Family Survived the Holocaust, the author recounts the moving story of her own family’s travails in war-torn Europe before, during, and after World War II.
Her father was one of the youngest hidden children during WW2, spending two and a half years in a Belgian convent. Her grandparents, originally from Germany and Poland, survived by hiding in plain sight. But their trauma may not have ended with the war.
Dr Bottner will discuss epigenetics - how the Holocaust modified survivors’ genes - and how those changes may be transmitted down the generations.
Dr. Bottner has given talks in the USA, South Africa, Canada, and Australia.
This is her New Zealand debut.
