European-Korean-New Zealand Baroque Concert
A collaboration between Swiss Maestro, Italian Sapronao singer and Korean Oboist, accompanied by the Auckland Sinfonietta Orchestra.
Maestro Stephane Decor from Art Initiative Switzerland and Dr.Wang of Auckland Sinfonietta Trust decided to initiate a Baroque Music repertoire in Auckland. We had a long term vision of a festival being a milestone that will grow for the pleasure of the audience.
The term “baroque” comes from the Portuguese word barroco, meaning”misshapen pearl” (1531). For our purpose, it designates here the style of music composed during a period that overlaps with that of Baroque art. The baroque was a period of musical experimentation and innovation. New forms were invented there.
It was therefore a period in our history.
The era of baroque music symbolically begins in Italy with Claudio Monteverdi's opera (1567-1643), L'Orfeo (1607), and ends with the contemporaries of Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Haendel and Antonio Vivaldi. Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) and Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767), because of their longevity, composed their last works in the 1760s but, well before this decade, younger composers turned to a new style.
This concert is the 1st Baroque festival that Dr. Wang and I are presenting to you. It will express the temper of baroque music with the magnificent pearls chosen from his repertoire.
We wish you an excellent evening full of aesthetics.
