"Transforming Problems Into Happiness" Through letting go of the 8 worldly dharmas.
24th – 26th January 2020

In general we don’t like problems, and we put a lot of effort into solving our problems. But we also know that once problems are solved, new problems are on the horizon.

According to Buddhism, problems are not coming from outside, but are created by our mind. Whether or not we experience a situation as a problem is determined by how we view the situation and our attitude towards it.

In this course you will receive tools to identify our tendencies to externalize and exaggerate problems. We will explore the different methods in Buddhism that counteract the tendencies we have. We will discuss how we can transform the way we look at a situation, so that what looks as a problem becomes an opportunity for growth. We will also discuss how we can transform our attitude, so that a difficult situation that burdens us becomes an opportunity to benefit others.

The 16 Guidelines for A Happy Life - 14 - 16 February 2020.

The 16 guidelines are a set of practical and straightforward tools for developing happiness and meaning in everyday life. The guidelines are inspired by a 7th century text from the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. He wrote the text for lay people, who didn’t have much time and opportunity to study the philosophical texts.

The way we experience the world depends upon our mind. Whether we are happy or not depends upon the way we think and act. The 16 guidelines provide a simple and practical framework for developing good qualities, such as empathy, compassion, resilience, and confidence.

By understanding the benefits of these good qualities for oneself and others we (re-)connect with our inner wisdom. This will help us to change the way we think and act. It will influence our relationships in a positive way and will deepen our purpose in life. Applying the guidelines in daily life will help you to achieve a greater sense of well-being on all levels.

Retreat Teacher:
Venerable Lhundup Jamyang was born in the Netherlands in 1961 and has worked for 12 years as a physiotherapist with children. In 1997 Jamyang came into contact with Buddhism and in 2000 took ordination at Kopan. Jamyang then went to Australia to study and later worked as the Spiritual Programme Coordinator and teacher. In 2009 Lam Zopa Rinpoche advised Venerable Jamyang to study the Madhyamakavatara, as part of the Master’s Program.

Venerable Jamyang is co-writer of the study-manual for the Madhyamakavatara, and has been painting tangkas for over 20 years.

Both of the retreats are supported by meditation sessions and times of silence to allow for reflection and absorption of the tools learned to carry through to your daily practice.

The ticket investment is for each retreat, it covers the facility fee and fully catered vegetarian meals for one retreat only, when booking on our website click on the retreat you wish to attend. This excludes accommodation. Mahamudra offer a 20% discount on the range of accommodation options including camping which are made available to participants. Information is provided when booking the retreat. A 10% membership discount is applicable for members (please contact the Main Office).
