Burst your Bubble with Books at the Booktown Bookshops this Queen's Birthday Weekend
Featherston Booktown’s bookshops are to stage “Burst Your Bubble with Books” promotions over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

Each of the six bookshops is preparing individual programmes involving discounts, readings and other activities.

“The idea is to help people replenish their bedside reading stacks, which will have been depleted during the lockdown as well as stimulate much needed trade, ” said Dave Adams of the Dickensian Bookshop.

The annual Featherston Booktown Festival, planned for the second week in May, had been cancelled because of the lockdown. This is normally a highpoint for trading for the town’s bookshops which were closed throughout the six weeks.

Featherston Booktown Operations Manager, Mary Biggs noted that while the May festival had been cancelled, “the Burst the Bubble promotions by our permanent bookshops over the Queen’s Birthday weekend will be a great reminder after the lockdown, of the town’s role as a mecca for readers at any time of the year.”

Colourful Booktown flags are already flying down Fitzherbert St, and the bookshops will also be decked out with bunting.

The six bookshops are, The Dickensian Bookshop, Featherston Ferret, For the Love of Books, Messines Books: Military History, Loco Café & Books and Mr Feather’s Den.
