Cantando Choir presents Favourites and Familiars, with special guests the Tron Songsters Children’s Choir.

The concert season for Cantando begins with a performance of some of the choir’s most favourite pieces. When the COVID-19 lockdown brought an end to preparations for the choir’s originally-planned May concert, Cantando’s new Musical Director, Kolitha Jayatunge, began discussions with the committee to devise a programme which could be prepared in a short rehearsal time. The result is a collection of pieces which long-time Cantando supporters will be familiar with from past concerts: Big City Swing, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Moon River, Homeward Bound and Sure on this Shining Night feature, together with other popular works. Talented musician and Cantando’s resident accompanist, David Woodcock, will be at the keyboard.

Cantando is pleased to host the young singers from Hamilton’s Tron Songsters Children’s Choir, under the direction of Hannah Bryant and Maria Colvin, in this concert. The Trons will present a bracket of their own favourite songs and join with Cantando in performing Over the Rainbow.

“It’s rewarding to see our singers enjoying themselves and working hard as they revisit some of the choir’s favourites from the past,” says Koli. “There are challenges too. The Vaughan Williams’ Five English Folk Songs, which the choir first sang many years ago, is a complex and difficult work for any choir, and I’m pleased with the progress Cantando has made in mastering it.”

Like everyone else in New Zealand, choir members are very happy to be back participating in their favourite activity and look forward to entertaining you with a programme of familiar pieces from Cantando’s repertoire. Join us – your favourite piece may well be among those featured!

Tickets available by emailing info@cantando.org, phoning our Ticket Hotline on 021 1393 796 (payment by internet banking only), from choir members or at the door. Entry is by general admission.
