Renaissance Singers will be celebrating Carols for Christmas at St Peter’s Church, Ruahine Street, opposite the end of Broadway, at 2.30pm, Sunday, 13 December. There will be opportunity for the audience to sing many of their favourites along with the choir.

Music Director, Christine Archer-Lockwood has enjoyed exploring the trove of carols now available to choirs, rediscovering the standards and uncovering versions that retell traditional Christmas stories in a new way, often maintaining the classic sound, but sometimes setting the carols to more modern compositional styles. Examples are Cecelia McDowall’s playful setting of the fifteenth century carol Now May We Singen, with dance rhythms and Gregorian chant inspired harmonies, and award-winning writer Nigel Forde’s poem The Earthly Choir with its up-town Manhatten Transfer style by Kiwi Christopher Norton. Oscar winning composer John Corigliano's Christmas at the Cloisters also features.

Guy Donaldson will again showcase his skills as he accompanies choir and audience on piano and organist Roy Tankersley’s virtuosity will thrill the audience as the choir and audience sing a rousing version of Ding Dong! Merrily on High. Early audience members may even get to hear the accompanists warming up. Carols for Christmas will be a special treat.

Do join us at 2:30pm on Sunday Dec 13 in St Peter’s Church to celebrate Christmas with carols and singing. Door sales (cash please) with tickets/programmes also available from choir members.
