Part of the Covert Block Workshop Series:
The workshop: Over the six classes we will explore the relationships between rehearsal and improvisation; plot and story; actor and audience and how “character” emerges through the creative abrasion of these elements. We will examine the elements with selected scene work as well as improvised scenarios. Our aim is to develop a common performance vocabulary and practical techniques to enhance the participants’ acting practice.
The teacher: Stuart Devenie is a NZ acting legend. He has worked as a professional actor, director and tutor in theatre, radio drama and television since 1972 and is well-known for acting in Peter Jackson’s movies Meet the Feebles, Braindead and The Frighteners. He has been awarded an MNZM for services to the Theatre and also endowed as a New Zealand Arts Laureate. His special passions are New Zealand scripts and Shakespeare.
