Dunedin born artist Craig Easton has been exhibiting throughout Australia and internationally since the mid 1990s. With Paintings for a Black Pavilion he continues moving through the structured spaces and processes of non-objective and minimalist abstraction while pulling in content drawn from a diversity of languages: personal, everyday, architectural, musical, cinematic, local, Eastern influenced and otherwise.
Paintings for a Black Pavilion is his 35th solo exhibition since 1996 and his first in New Zealand. This October he is also showing in ‘A Hypothetical Neo Constructivism: When Things Fall Apart’ at BANK / MAB Society Shanghai and ‘The Paul Guest Prize for Drawing’ at Bendigo Art Gallery, Australia. Other exhibitions in 2020 include ‘Abstract Constructs’ at the Shanghai Opera House; ‘Path to an Enchanting Seclusion’ at Xinqiao Art Museum, Shanghai; and ‘Algorithm Aesthetic’ at La Trobe Art Institute, Australia.
His works are held in collections including the National Gallery of Victoria Australia, Bendigo Art Gallery, Federal Court of Australia, Shanghai Opera House, National Australia Bank (NAB) - Australia and UK, RMIT University Collection, La Trobe University Art Collection, East China Normal University, Justin Art House Museum, Artbank, Siemens.
