Something is being shuffled, ready to be dealt to Wellington. The deck is stacked and the suits are in order. BambuchiSan (Hataitai), Field & Green (Te Aro), Daisy’s (Thorndon) and The Beach House & Kiosk (Owhiro Bay) present the inaugural Deck of Chefs dinner series. The eateries have teamed up for an exciting four part dinner collaboration series happening over the next 3 months. Brain child of chef Jonny Taggart, these rotating dinners will provide a chance for foodies all over Wellington to meet and eat with four talented chefs at once from the comfort of their favourite local restaurant.
The chefs are teaming up and taking over each restaurant one at a time. This series begins through the Mt. Vic tunnel at BambuchiSan on the 28th of July, then into the city to Field & Green on the 11th of August. The 25th of August then sees the takeover move to the picturesque Owhiro Bay to The Beach House & Kiosk and the final dinner on the 8th of September is at the newly refurbished Daisy’s (previously Tinakori Bistro) in Thorndon.
At each dinner, the chefs present a different course to showcase their individual culinary flair. The first event is Clubs: The chef club, featuring black garlic as the star ingredient that is carried through all four dishes. The second event is Spades: Food from the earth. This will be an entirely vegan event, and the only event in the lineup that is suitable for vegetarians. The third event is Diamonds. Presenting classic dishes with a luxurious twist. The final event is, of course, Hearts: These will be the Chef’s favourites, the dishes that are the closest to their hearts.
Tickets for each event are $85pp for four courses - one from each chef. The chefs will be the ones serving the dishes on the night, meeting the guests, and telling the story behind their food. The venues have teamed up with Steph from Mineral to provide us with wine pairings to match the chefs’ creations. These will be available for purchase on the night(s). Tickets for each event are sold separately.
This series will be a whole lot of fun, celebrating some amazing Wellington chefs and restaurants. It’s a fantastic time to be collaborating, and support between the restaurants is now more important than ever as we band together to help keep our industry thriving. It will be great for all our customers to meet the mysterious chefs who are normally tucked away in their kitchens, and entice people to keep ‘supporting local’ and perhaps visit some new places they never would have ventured before.
