Doc Edge invites all filmmakers to our first ever Doc Edge Clinic in Christchurch on Saturday 22 February.

Doc Edge Clinic #1 is an introductory session for anyone interested in submitting an application to Doc Edge Pitch, or who wants to learn more about the process of pitching a documentary project.

The Clinic will look in detail at what makes a good documentary pitch, documentary story development, proposal writing, and creating audio-visual supporting material.

This session is also a great way to network and meet other creative professionals working in the documentary sector.

Speakers:
Jane Robertson
Jane is a television and film producer based in Wellington, New Zealand, with extensive experience in developing and producing documentaries and factual series in both New Zealand and the UK. Her credits include the feature-length Janet Frame documentary Wrestling With the Angel, WW1 documentary, Women At War, the ten-part observational documentary series Prison Families and two series of Street Hospital.

More recently she developed and produced The Trouble With Murder, Bullies, All In the Mind and The Secret Lives of Fussy Eaters. Jane is currently producing Bug Hunter!, a Canadian-New Zealand co-production factual series for children that includes an AR experience and web-based game. She has a number of other projects in development, including the feature-length documentary A Place to Stand (2019 Doc Edge Pitch Winner).

Steve Barr
Steve moved to Aotearoa in 2010 after working for 16 years in the Hollywood system. A graduate from the University of Southern California’s acting conservatory, he worked for 2 years as an actor before transitioning into writing and producing. Steve has worked as a corporate suit for Universal Studios, a screenwriter for Disney, and was the VP of development for indie production company SMASHfilms. In New Zealand, he has written two movies and produced two more. He’s a member of SPADA and WIFT, the former President of the NZ Writers Guild, and is currently the Commissioner of Drama and Scripted Comedy for TVNZ.
