Head on down to Te Manawa to join Hannah and Liam from The Rubbish Trip for an engaging, informative and evidence-based presentation about how individuals, communities, councils, industry and government can work together to turn the findings of Palmy’s Plastic Pollution Challenge into practical action for a better, safer world.

This event is part of Palmy’s Plastic Pollution Challenge’s spring 2020 'Arohatia Te Kawau' event programme.

Phase 1 of Palmy’s Plastic Pollution Challenge (PPPC) citizen science research found that 80% of the litter in Palmy's urban waterways is plastic and that only 7% is recyclable. These findings show us that we have a major plastic issue and that the answer isn't just about recycling more.

The PPPC research has also identified towns and cities as the key "location of opportunity" and "unit of change" for our better, safer world. This is a call to action for all of us to play our part.

In this presentation, Hannah and Liam will share the best solutions that zero waste theory and practice has to offer, with a specific focus on how we can tackle the problem items identified by the PPPC research. While the findings are depressing, the great news is that the solutions to these challenges already exist, and we can get to work on them from today.

Hannah and Liam have lived without a rubbish bin for over five years and are Co-Founders of The Rubbish Trip. For three years they travelled the length and breadth of New Zealand full-time doing talks about low-waste living. In addition to walking the talk in their own lives, they support businesses to change their systems to reduce waste and they work for NGOs and campaigns who call for the policy changes needed for a waste-free world. They are co-founders of the Takeaway Throwaways campaign, Hannah is Coordinator of the New Zealand Product Stewardship Council, and Liam is the Deputy Chair of the Aotearoa Plastic Pollution Alliance.

The event is free and will begin with free zero waste nibbles from 5:45pm. The talk begins at 6pm, with a Q&A from 7pm.

Koha appreciated.
