Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.
Join celebrated author, illustrator and art educator Sandra Morris to learn how to draw animals. In our 2020 course, we'll have a guinea pig, rabbit, chook and dogs visiting the classroom.
Sandra will take children through the steps of drawing live animals - from looking initially at basic shapes and then drawing the form. Children will learn to complete quick gestural studies then longer intense observations. Please note that we will have live animals on site at various times (likely to be a friendly dog, a rabbit or hamster, a bird or a reptile) so please consider this if your child suffers from allergies. This course is suitable for children 8 - 12 years of age.
Expected learning outcomes:
-learning to sit still and observe
-learning to draw gesturally
-understanding the use of tonal drawing - the fall of light and dark on a 3D form
-learning to engage well with animals
-learning to work with different drawing techniques
What to bring:
Bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. All materials are supplied for the course.
