The Tauranga Civic Choir is delighted to present a performance of Dvorak’s Mass in D major, for their first concert for 2020. Four talented young vocal soloists from Auckland will be joining the choir, and the Wellington organist Douglas Mews will accompany the performance on the fine pipe organ at St Peter’s Presbyterian church.
Dvorak composed his Mass in D major as a favour for a friend, and, unlike many choral masterpieces of the time, this mass was intended to be performed by a choir about the size of Tauranga Civic Choir and accompanied by an organ rather than an orchestra. Also included in the programme are smaller choral works by Dvorak’s contemporaries, Brahms and Bruckner.
