Enamels allow you to create colourful pieces of jewellery, the types of colours and style of design or pattern are up to you! The Enamels are actually coloured powdered glass that we can fuse to copper and silver.
This class is suitable for beginners and those with more experience.
Torch firing enamels is a fun and organic technique that is a great way for people to start learning how to enamel.
Beginners with little or no jewellery making experience will be given simple set projects that can be easily completed in the one-day class. The easiest is to create simple colourful shapes that can be made into a slip bracelet (pictured), earrings or pendants. Several of these can be made in a one day session. Great for gifts!
Those with jewellery making experience may be able to choose slightly more advanced projects, but still keeping it simple as this is a short course.
If you have pre-prepared metal pieces for your project that's great - but if not you can use the pre-cut copper or silver forms we provide, and then adapt your design around those. If you're planning larger items, or more complex things that need more time, we recommend booking into the finishing class on Sunday the 15th of November.
Those with enamelling and jewellery experience, who also have home workshops may wish to start a project that they will finish later at home, and use your tutor’s experience in enamelling and fabricating connections to help you design and begin your piece.
Materials for basic projects will be provided, and extra materials and fittings are available to purchase.
