‘Even Angels get the Blues’ is the title for the show on June 27th featuring guitarist/songsmith Terry Sarten and John Scudder on double bass performing as The Urban Angels.
Over the past year they have played in a range of local venues and Terry travels to Europe every two years to do a run of solo shows in Germany.
This will the first gig at Space Studio and Gallery to signal restarting the Sound Sessions season after the great lockdown hiatus. It will also be in the beautiful old building that is now the new home for the Gallery at 18 Saint Hill Street which has a dedicated performance area with great acoustics and will be hosting regular concerts in the coming months.
The musical style tilts a hat towards the blues and Americana and feature a collection of Terry’s own songs mixed with those of musicians who are wonderful examples of the special skill that crafts a great song out of melody and lyrics such as John Prine, Little Feat, Van Morrison and Tom Waits.
The title for the show came from the realisation that at least 4 songs written over recent years reference angels in some way.
The latest addition to the set list is a song in which the lyrics are a snapshot of an angel’s day following a night shift at the Pearly Gates lamenting that “Even angels get the blues”. Terry Sarten songs and writings can be found on his website.
