Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This course will run on Saturday 23 May 2020 10 AM - 4 PM.

Designed for those with some painting experience, this workshop will give students opportunities to experiment and learn various watercolour techniques. This is a chance to explore a less botanical, more expressive and contemporary way of depicting flowers. I'd like to encourage students to paint in a freer, looser way.

Course outline:
-Techniques and processes for starting a painting
-Thinking about composition and planning the final result
-Use negative space painting technique
-Practice drawing lessons for portraying flowers at different angles, and in bunches
-Tonality (mood)
-Completion of painting

Expected learning outcomes:
-Learn a clear process to take a painting from beginning to end
-Gain control over composition
-Use edge variety as a way to enliven your painting
-Gain confidence to use colour boldly

Who should attend? This course is best for those who have some experience with painting. This course will focus more on developing existing skills and encourage a more adventurous style.

What to bring: Your lunch. We'll provide tea and coffee. All materials ($30) are included within the course fee.

About Andrew Ockleston: I've been working as a portraitist for five year, as well as exhibiting my own work. After finishing my studies at animation college, I've spent the last two years tutoring adults and children in art.
