Take time, slow down and connect to the park nature with Yaki on her Forest Therapy Walk.

Join this walk by emailing info@cornwallpark.co.nz with your name, phone number and participant numbers.

Forest Therapy is a guided practice that supports healing and wellness through immersion in natural environments. Forest Therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which translates to 'forest bathing'. A group walk usually consists of 5-10 people and is a great way to not only connect with nature but also connect with other people.

The walk follows a standard sequence of guided meditation, invitations to establish sensual connections, a few rounds of circle sharing and ends with a tea ceremony. No prior experience is needed. Typically a walk is 2.5-3 hours in duration and covers about 2km. The walk is not physically strenuous so it will be accessible for most people.

For over a decade Yaki has worked for non-profit organisations globally, first as a human rights campaigner, later as an environmental policy researcher, grant maker and consultant in the area of climate change. Having grown up and lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, Toronto and London as an urbanite, New Zealand’s proximity to nature opened up her senses like never before. When her mother fell ill in 2016 and passed away in 2018, she sought solace in nature and responded to her calling by training to become a nature and forest therapy guide. Yaki believes that nature and forest therapy deepens our understanding that we all interrelate in a dynamic system. Such understanding is fundamental to the reconnections to the self, others and nature, necessary to tackling the social, economic and environmental challenges we are facing today.

Cornwall Park offers a wonderful connection to nature in the heart of a bustling city.

The NZ COVID Tracer QR Code will be present at this event and all participants will be expected to scan the code. The code is also placed around the park, in public toilets and within Huia Lodge Discovery Hub. We ask that all participants continue with their basic hygiene practices while at the event and in the park. This includes hand hygiene (washing for 20 seconds, drying thoroughly or using hand sanitiser), coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and avoiding touching your face. Hand sanitiser will be available at the event. If you are feeling unwell before the event, we ask that you stay at home.
