Whareongaonga Bay is a spectacular place to visit and has an interesting history as well. It has been settled for a very long time with up to 130 whare in the bay at one time. In 1868 it was the site of Te Kooti’s landing from the Chatham Islands. We follow a long downhill, then climb uphill again, mostly following a farm track.
