Explore ideas and actions that your grandmother would have taken for granted. Sometimes termed vintage or pioneer skills, this course teaches you tips and tricks from a past era. Learn ways to make your life easier, more affordable and that help you to live in a more self-sufficient and sustainable manner.

This workshop will review and reinvent old fashioned domestic skills for the 21st Century.

Discussed in the context of global issues such as climate change and resource-depletion, it builds on an increased interest in living in a sustainable and self-sufficient manner. As the course’s title suggests, the skills covered in this course are those of a different era, one coloured by the economic necessity of frugality during world events such as the Great Depression and the World Wars.

It seeks to address contemporary global issues from a DIY domestic viewpoint conveying ideas about ways course participants can not only make their own lives easier and cheaper, but at the same time have less impact on the planet.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Recognise the benefits of cooking from scratch at home.
- State the positive effects of growing a garden.
- Define the different methods of preserving produce with awareness of food safety.
- Define what a budget is and why it is a good thing to have.
- Name a range of useful basic needle and fibre craft skills.

Note: Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".
